Scott Tlanda, M.D.

I am an American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) certified general psychiatrist providing treatment for children, adolescents, and adults across the great state of Texas. My specialties include depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, insomnia, schizophrenia, ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder, and a wide variety of mental health related concerns and issues. Since the recent COVID pandemic, I have worked extensively delivering care via various telehealth platforms to patients at community and intensive care environments, ensuring no loss in the quality of treatment compared to in-person visits. I personally enjoy working with diverse patient populations with varied cultural experiences.

Holistic Care

Mental health care is more than just assigning a diagnosis based on certain criteria and providing a predetermined treatment. One’s sense of self is composed of past experiences, current thoughts, feelings, and future goals. Appropriate diagnosis and treatment takes all aspects and aligns the recommendations with each desired outcome. For children and adolescents, the considerable influence of the family unit and peer group must be considered.

I am a born and raised Texan, primarily residing in North Texas. Following high school I took advantage of the great public education at Dallas College-Brookhaven for my college pre-requisites and then transferred to the University of North Texas where I studied biology and psychology, obtaining a bachelors degree in both. The organic world has always fascinated me, as did the mind and behavior. After undergraduate course work, I attended the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, obtaining my Medical Degree. While studying medicine, I enjoyed most rotations and specialties, eventually narrowing my focus to either internal medicine and infectious disease or pursuing what originally had drawn me to the field: psychiatry. In a stroke of good fortune, I was given the opportunity to train at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center- Our Lady of the Lake general psychiatry residency program in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; there I was blessed with excellent mentors, colleagues, and friends that I still have to this day. Upon completing my residency, fortune again smiled upon me and I was able to attend and complete my child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of Texas- Dell Medical School program in Austin. While at Dell, I trained with many skilled mentors and amazing colleagues. Since finishing fellowship and training, I have provided telemedicine services through local mental health authorities all across the state, often to underserved and rural areas that otherwise would have minimal care. I look forward to serving this great state and its neighbors, raising mental health awareness and providing quality care.

When I’m not working I’m usually spending my time walking my dog (a beautiful red heeler mix), with friends and family, enjoying science fiction media (The Expanse, Star Trek), catching up on anime, playing games or in the gym.
